Welcome to Hawke’s Bay - our place ... Situated on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Hawke’s Bay is a popular destination for tourists, and those wanting to relocate to an area where the lifestyle offers the best of all worlds. We have a population of 146,000 people, with most residing in or around the twin cities of Hastings and Napier.

Napier is on the coast, and is famous for its Art Deco architecture. Hastings is located inland on the fertile Heretaunga Plains, well known for its orchards and cropping. With over 2,245 hours of sunshine each year and warm, dry summers, it is little wonder that Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s foremost wine producing regions. 

There is a strong sense of community in Hawke’s Bay, and whatever your interests, chances are there are clubs and community organisations which will offer you a warm welcome.

Our job, and what drives us is a passion to realise the goal of having New Zealand’s healthiest families. We will achieve this through ‘Working with others to maximise the health and well-being of people in Hawke’s Bay and the Chatham Islands’. Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s 2400 staff are part of a comprehensive health care network which includes two hospitals, three health centres, an acute mental health facility and community-based services.

Specialist services are based at Hawke’s Bay Hospital in Hastings. The range and scope of specialist services offer exceptional clinical experience. Hawke’s Bay DHB recognises nursing as a dynamic profession and is committed to supporting Nurses in providing integrated comprehensive nursing care for patients, families and population groups in a diverse range of settings.

We are also a teaching DHB, working with the Eastern Institute of Technology and Otago University’s Wellington School of Medicine and Health Sciences to provide a teaching and learning environment which supports staff to further their professional development.
