Hutt Valley

Hutt Hospital is beautifully located four kilometres from the northern shores of Wellington Harbour and only 15 minutes drive from the centre of our nation’s vibrant and multi-cultural capital. A huge range of lifestyle activities and amenities are readily accessible. Three tertiary institutions offering post-graduate courses are in close proximity.

Hutt Valley District Health Board has almost 2500 staff serving our community of 139,000 people. We have a world-renowned plastic and burns unit, one of New Zealand’s top paediatric services, regional rheumatology, screening and public health services. Our facilities are modern and well equipped. All our specialties have a strong focus on excellence and innovation.

By the end 2006 we will have been audited for Magnet accreditation, making us the first DHB in New Zealand to embark on this process.

We encourage the professional development of our Nurses through our Professional Development and Recognition Programme and comprehensive in-house training programmes in partnership with tertiary providers. We support our Nurses through strong nursing leadership. Our highly regarded New Graduate Programme employs up to 35 newly graduated Nurses per year.

Our spacious park-like campus is undergoing significant redevelopment with new CT and MRI machines, additional operating theatres, an expansion of the emergency department and extensions to our intensive care unit.

“There are many reasons why I enjoy living and working in the Hutt Valley. It is a great place to live and raise children. There is a wonderful sense of community spirit. The area has a wide range of leisure activities and locally organised family events. Hutt Hospital is a district hospital with a small maternity unit. The atmosphere at work is relaxed and informal and the staff are friendly and welcoming throughout the organisation, from orderlies to senior health professionals. Management are flexible when rostering part-time staff and show consideration towards mothers with young families and other personal circumstances.”
Victoria Jones, ex UK Nurse

“This is one of the most congenial, progressive hospitals I have experienced during a career spent in Asia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand (from 1969-2006).”
Ann Ramshaw RN Dip ECE
